Apply today for Mechanics Savings Bank Banking on the Future Scholarship

Apply before April 30, 2008 to be eligible for Mechanics Savings Bank Banking on the Future Scholarship. The Banking on the Future Scholarship was created to assist and reward a wide range of life experiences among student applicants. Please read the application carefully and reply completely. Scholarship Details A total of $13,000 in scholarships will be awarded to nine high schools as follows:

Two students from each of the following local high schools will be awarded $1,000:
Edward Little, Auburn
St. Dom’s, Auburn
Lewiston High School
Windham High School
 		One student from each of the following area high schools will be awarded $1,000:
Leavitt
Lisbon
Monmouth
Oak Hill
Poland
Criteria
  • Applicant must be a High School Senior planning to pursue a higher education at a 2- or 4-year college, university or technical school.

  • Applicant must have a grade average of 85 or better for 3 years and be in good standing at current high school.

  • Applicant must have demonstrated community service experience.

  • Applicant must be of good moral character.
Submissions Required
  1. Application (2-page application attached) that describes key accomplishments in: Academic, School Activities, Service to Others/Community Service/Volunteerism, Athletics, Leadership Abilities, Additional accomplishments


  2. Transcripts from 3 years and first semester of senior year.


  3. Write a 250 word essay outlining why you believe service to others is important, drawing on your personal involvement in community service organizations and/or your personal experience(s) providing service to individuals – including family members – in need. You may wish to include specific challenges you’ve overcome and how you’ve learned to apply what you’ve gained from the experience.


  4. At least one personal recommendation from a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, advisor, community service organization or employer.
